Searching for the perfect Mother’s Day gift? Whatcom Community College’s Community Education might have the answer.
The program is offering a May 12 Artists’ Road Trip that’s a rare, insider’s look at the world-renowned Pilchuck Glass School. Located on a remote, 54-acre site in Snohomish County, the school was founded in 1971 by artist Dale Chihuly and has become one of the world’s most comprehensive centers for glass art education.
Accompanied by Bellingham artists Trish Harding and Debbie McCunn, people who sign up for the trip will enjoy a rustic brunch with artists, tour the studios and campus, watch glassmaking in action and enjoy the bucolic setting.
The day begins with a one-hour lecture and discussion at WCC. Participants will then travel by Bellair Charters motor coach to the school. The cost, $85, includes brunch.

This is a precursor to May’s Exciting Drawing Workshop- DRAWING FROM BOTH SIDES OF YOUR BRAIN, Mon 5/7. Don’t miss this one which will take your drawing to the next level!
- Experimental drawing exercise is the elixir that provides an artist with the gumption and the courage to take their work to another level
- We will break through our own limitations and venture out into a new place of drawing
- We will break for 1 hr at noon, bring a lunch or snack.
Bring: Large vine charcoal (Big Bobs which I have for sale $3 at the Studio), small soft vine charcoal, one soft compressed charcoal, one soft white conte crayon, Newsprint pad (rough) 24x 18inches, I full sheet of middle gray (value) drawing paper cut into two pieces, (such as Mi Tientes or Ingre), drawing board to fit 24x 18inch paper, kneaded eraser. Drawing horses are available. Easels are limited- first come- first serve so you may want to bring yours. Door will open at 9:45am.
